Paquiao Gets Mauled By Anti-Gay Sentiments
The boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao together with his associates is under heavy scrutiny as they tried to quell sentiments made by a writer about Pacquiao’s stand on same sex marriage. In a recent article on Examiner.com, PAcquiao opposed President Obama’s support with regards to same sex marriage.
The article include that Pacquiao quoted a bible verse from Leviticus that goes “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to deathl their blood will be on their own heads.”
Many publications quickly catch-up with the story, stating that the verse was quoted from Pacquiao attributing his anti-gay sentiments. Pacquiao said in a phone interview in Wednesday that he never have quoted any verse from Leviticus but still remained his stand with anti-gay marriage.
“I don’t agree with, and I’m against, gay marriage,” Pacquiao said. “I’m not saying I condemn gay people, or gay marriage. I have relatives who are gay. I have friends who are gay” Pacquiao added.
The original author of the article quickly dismissed the fact and clarified that Pacquiao had nothing to do with the verse form Leviticus.
Even though it was an honest mistake, Pacquiao’s criticism was swift as the Grove Shopping Mall in Los Angeles was the first establishment banning the superstar. Pacquiao was scheduled to do a promotion with his Bradley vs Pacquiao fight, but the management said that it was “not a place for intolerance.”
Pacquiao on the other hand doesn’t feel guilty as he is confident enough that he was just preaching the words of God. “It’s O.K,” Pacquiao said.
On a boxing angle, we will just hope that this controversy will not affect his upcoming training. Pacquiao vs Bradley is set t meet in the ring this coming June 9th at Las Vegas.
